I read for two open mics, the first was at SF’s Bird & Beckett, on Monday the 12th with Kim Shuck and Molly Fisk, and the second was on Tuesday with Stella Bertalis for MoSt open mic (my 3rd reading with them. Gary Thomas and Ian Miller were featured readers. Slowly, I am rebuilding my poetic community via Zoom. I read my recent trees and fog poem both times. Before that, I stumbled upon the Soul Bone literary festival in Iowa, via Molly Fisk’s reading where I read at open mic, and took many of the classes as well. I actually like the ability to go to a poetry event via zoom. They are becoming less and less frequent as people begin to gather together, but I am liking the long distance relationship. And surprisingly, I have stayed active during this time of sequestration via zoom. I’ve gotten a lot of new writing orders. It’s been very rewarding. When it comes to free writing workshops offered over the Internet, I am shameless. I find that it helps me to write in directions I have not expected to. So, whenever possible I try to notate my sources at the bottom of my poems and prose pieces whenever possible.
