July 2022: Feeling the need to produce something, I pulled a journal at random from my stack of poetry journals and began to work on the year 1988 which only had 77 posts, but I managed to get at least five solid journal entries including a few Napa pieces, and some teaching notes, which I had previously neglected, and the originals of at least three poems so now 1988 has 112 posts, plus several drafts of poems that could be turned into poems.

I found the real first draft of SUMMER SQUASH IN A WINTER GARDEN, I had no idea I had written it as a prose piece that had nothing to do with John. Summer squash, prosepoem There’s basically nothing left in the journal to cull for the blog, but revisiting and mining the past is never easy. Once again I tried to go into my South American journal and discovered that my Ecuador journalism missing. Also I didn’t date a lot of the pieces so it made it harder to figure out when things were written.

I love how the scanning process resurrects bits of this and that, and only when I began to assemble the bits in this blog, that I discovered the date, and my working notes, as well as the original Bay Guardian poster. These posters were in color, BTW. I might have a copy of one of them somewhere in my silk paintings (to do).
