Little Christmas, Nollaig na mBan (Nollaig Bheag)
It's almost Women's Little Christmas! Good Irish & Scottish women party like rockstars on Jan 6, to, as the song goes—and come rolling home drunk in the mornin'. But since today is Sunday....we're getting a headstart. (I guess if it's dusk on Jan 5 in Scotia Minor agus Scotia Major, right now, then Nollaig na mBan (Nollaig Bheag) has already begun—as the Celtic day begins at dusk on the night before dawn. My cousins in Bantry and Tralee always celebrate Womens' Christmas with piping hot tea liberally laced with sherry, and delicate pastry dainties. Perhaps a trifle. This is the day when women are supposed to receive cool gifts from family too—sort of like an Irish Mothers' Day—only you don't need to have kids to celebrate. A spa date would be very much in order. Them men are supposed to do all the housework, cooking, and be our taxi drivers when the pubs close. Let the party begin! Sláinte agaibh agus Nollaig na mBan faoi mhaise dhaoibh!
