Yesterday, a young student asked if he could see my face. I obliged, pulling my mask down, smiling wide, and said, is this what you were expecting? I asked if they could tell when I was smiling when I had my mask on. They said they could see, yes yes yes. They said that my eyebrows spoke volumes. My eyes also smiled. Ironic, that wearing masks, the equivalent of a Middle Eastern burkah, allows us the opportunity to read each other’s eyes.
