THE LOST NOTEBOOK

THE LOST NOTEBOOK

Somewhere along the way, I lost a notebook,
a simple, spiral affair, perhaps with a blue cover,
scribing my travels, chronicling the paths taken,
the writer’s journeys for the sake of poetry.

I lost a notebook somewhere along the way.
Perhaps it was on a bus, or on the trail of life.
Was it while I was traveling up the coast
to that famous writers’ conference?
Or was it left behind in a dingy restaurant booth?

Ironic, that I lost the notebook
chronicling those awkward poems
and the latest heartaches of spring.
Maybe it was that run-in I had with Bly.
Perhaps it ran off with Iron John.
Or it was jettisoned it along the way
because it was filled with detritus of anger
and hope.
