Vampyre Mike Kassel was one of my mother’s favorite friends. I first met himwhen I was young. My mom brought him out to my grandmother’s place in Forest Knolls. She went by Kellé Green in those days. And I later knew him as an adult through Whitman “Blue Dawg” McGowan. When my mom died, she had a poster of an event of Vampyre Mike’s, some of his chapbooks, and two audio tapes, one of Pasha and the Pagans, and the other, of Leonard Cohen’s Ten New songs. I figured it was a sign of something or another. Not sure what. Happy Birthday Vampyre Mike, fellow Sagge.
