Boxing Day ceilidh at Indu Kline’s, Tom Savell on the fiddle

Boxing Day, at Indu Kline’s for a fantastic feast, followed by a little ceilidh; with the great Tom Savell on fiddle,  playing Moody Blues' “Nights in White Satin,” (one of my all-time favorite songs, ever), Sherry Benson on keyboards, Neil O'Neill on guitar. Not the best recording but Tom brings it alive.  And gives us a chord progression lesson too. 

I heard Moody Blues play this song live at the Oakland Coliseum, when they played this melody, the stage was enveloped in a magical dry ice fog. Stephanie Stone and I were right up front. It was the anthem of an era.

Boxing Day Ceilidh, continued: David LaFlamme's classic “White Bird,” another all-time favorite of mine. Tom Savell on fiddle, and Sherry Benson on keyboards. I am so not a video fan, but these were too good to not record.

I remember David LaFlamme living in Guerneville, destitute, in the early 1980s, pumping gas for a living at the Flying A gas station at the Gurneville Bridge. And all I could think of, was his hands, his poor hands—a world class violinist reduced to manual labor....

And to close with  “Feliz Navidad.”
