GIRDING THE LOINS (haiku)
Girding up our loins
for the next catastrophe—
a permanent state
of being ready
for what comes next, calling it
an Armageddon,
of sorts, we prepare
for the worst, another onslaught—
day still follows night.
Call it storm, or fire,
or earthquake, mass shootings—
oh tenuous life.
