Patterns

Patterns

The annual and diurnal patterns hold
it seems always to be connected with the notion
that in the savagery of love
the skeleton set in motion collapsed flaccidly
as we take off from now
the spider crawled all the way down and delivered him
blue as the star
blue as the gull
the bull headed monster
of the double axe

Body whose hands broke ground for that thrusting head
years have passed since that autumn
it had promised to be too hot
but just enough sun warmed them

Pleasant whiteness of pearl barley
or woman's body, a communal drink
Antares glows faintly without sparkle
behind all that maleness of that mulling night.
