During the decades of long drought, suburbs grew like weeds. Now the floodland reclaims its ancestral homeland. All those houses built on the hundred-year flood plains, and in those old riverbeds and washes, during a time when it was easy to bribe the planning commissioners, are now vast inland lakes. Water coming home to roost, takes all hostage in its wake. Thoughts and prayers won’t stem the tide.
