RACING HEART
I drove my friend into town,
we passed two escaped horses,
massive Clydesdales, a black and a gray,
tasting their freedom as they galloped
along the road back and forth,
back and forth, blocking traffic,
everyone chasing them,
as my friend’s racing heart,
pounded systole, diastole,
as we headed toward
the emergency room.
it was written as prose
