fire poets

We saw many fires near King City—whole ridges smoking. Some 50 poets from across the state are gathered in La Casa de Maria, an ex nunnery in Montecito, the Santa Barbara foothills, and fire poems are on the menu. We have gathered with our feet firmly planted on solid air—er, ground! At least we’re not walking on hot coals. The air is thick. Maybe a little winged evolution is all we needed to really soar. We’re an energy of poets. David Starkey read his fire poems in the church. We were all on fire after his reading.
