MalcolmX ES teaching journal, Berkeley Day 3

Thinking that Sunday was Mother’s Day, in a panic, I switched around my lesson plans around and taught Mother’s Day Poems. To my detriment, Kathy Mapps had already done a great job on teaching Mother’s Day Poems. That’s twice now she’s taught my lessons, which is fine, but she didn’t tell me. I had them talk about making weird bump in the road lines to get them to write something where they’re making comparisons in every sentence. I told them that one line needs to be weird. And then part two was to write an ode to their best friend. There are too many wandering minds in this class and making sure everyone’s on the same page is tricky. Not my best teaching moment. But we made it through the lesson with grace.
