In Oakland, on Election Nigh, voters were literally dancing in the streets. Firecrackers and guns were let off, it was like the 4th of July in November.
The Ethiopians and Eritreans on the balconies next door went clean mad. They played Bob Marley, Buffalo Soldier and the Limbo.
You could tell when the California Electoral vote finally came in.
The entire city collectively screamed at once. We were all shouting a rousing rugby rendition of a echo and call cheer: Oh Bah Ma! Oh Bah Ma! Oh Bah Ma! I forgave my neighbors for all the other times they woke me in the middle of the night. Tomorrow was gonna be a brand new day.
Nobody got very much sleep on Election night in Oakland.
We were all on Cloud Nine.
