UNDER THE BRIDGE
Sometimes we mistake
the beginning of rain for a poem.
Searching for the river of words,
we’re either naked or dressed all wrong.
We cannot escape its sharp tongue
leaping the banks: it punctuates our sleep,
and bowlderizes the language of rocks,
leaves a fine layer of silt at our doorsteps.
