WANTING POEM
My first boyfriend and I sat in the back row
of the little theater in Olney Hall,
amidst human skeletons and dinosaur bones
watching a film series on Buckminster Fuller
envisioning our lives, moving back to the land
and when Bucky said: "The minute you begin
to do what you really want to do,
it's really a different kind of life."
We stepped into the sultry evening
and walked in beauty like the night
beneath a cloud of jasmine stars
and we believed in what was possible.
So very young, and sure-footed,
we scaled the heights of the tallest summits:
Mt. Whitney, Lyell Glacier, Cloud's Rest.

the Sierras, our bed, the stars our blanket
and in alpine meadows, we made promises
