Yesterday’s heat was brutal—it was 104° in West County—and then the power went out. A year ago, the same thing happened with absolutely no warning from PG&E!
This post was from a year ago today. It seems PG&E is in the habit of not warning customers that rolling blackouts will happen. All they need to do is make a press release. I mean, how hard is that? It would go a long way towards ameliorating our residual anger towards the company. I worry about those folks who are dependent on medical equipment. They don’t get any warning either? Criminal, as usual.
A friend said, “And the news I read here claims this is a first rolling black out since 2001 in California.” Yeah, no. My notes say differently. But there were others. I remember, and I also lost my most favorite iMac during one blackout circa 2015. I can look that up via my blog, I mourned the loss. Such a fantastic screen for photo editing.
I guess the best defense is to prepare for power outages. The problem is where I am staying, the house is entirely electric, including the water pump that brings the water to the house. The attic fan needs electricity. You wouldn’t think too much about that, right? When the attic fan quit working the temperature in the house soared to oven temperatures and it became unbearable. Ironically I had a battery powered fan with a spray bottle last year but I gave it to someone who needed it more than me.
But I worry about is the people who are on respirators, oxygen tanks and other medical equipment that is dependent upon electricity. I guess they have generators that will kick in. But it seems that PG&E knew that it was going to cut power, therefore all it had to do was do a press release on Facebook. Oh my God how difficult is that?
