During the 1980s, on one drunken escapade after a night of dancing at the Cotati Cabaret, we found ourselves out at Goat Rock, mid-winter, full moon rising, a bioluminescent tide. The shore glowed like a lace mantle. So of course we stripped, and jumped in the freezing water for about two seconds, made an even faster exit, and then watched the moon rise over the buff. I took a stick and wrote haiku in the sand, the words glowed for a moment, and then disappeared into darkness.
