Facebook is punking me again

Augh, Facebook has clearly been tampering with the model. Again. First it was the case of disappearing comments. Every time I made a correction on a comment, all of them would disappear from a thread. Then we couldn't post links anywhere. Now my newsfeed is so truncated so as to be amputated. I see the same dozen post over and over and over again. B O R I N G. The thrill is gone. But all the T. Rump posts seem to flourish. My idea of purgatory. Make that pure hell.

Yes, of course, I've restarted my Mac (several times a day), yes, I've cleared the browser history, cache, and cookies, and yes, I've used several Macs, and an iPad, and still get the warnings. 'T'aint me! I tell ya, it's Facebook getting long in tooth, and senile to boot.

To reiterate my FB woes:

July 17: Facebook Nanny is doing it again, erasing ALL my comments on pages. The most irritating part about it is that it erases not just one comment in question, but it blanket erases ALL my my comments on the thread. (Most notably on Vintage News, Archaeology Magazine, and Only in Northern California pages.) It must have something to do with either posting Wiki links. And the mention of the word "slavery" seem to also be a trigger component. it's maddening.

I have had my comments removed by Facebook (a note saying that it doesn't seem possible to post this right now...) At first I thought it was the length of my comments. So I experimented with various permutations and long, short, links/no links—they were all removed several times . Whenever I went in to re-edit, and when I added links is what triggers the response.

And I bet that if I wrote to the Only in Northern California page moderator, they wouldn't have a clue. (Unfortunately I can't leave a message on their page.) I think it is a Facebook internal algorithmic censor gone awry. Or they don't like revision. And I endlessly revise my comments. It takes me a while to organize my thoughts. And I'm a terrible typist, and have language OCD...

Facebook may assume that repeated editing of comments constitutes as spam. I even get Google-style picture spambots. On my own page? (LOL, it was cats...) Since I'm now wise to FBs nanny antics, I now copy all my lengthy comments so I have a backup copy to repost. I'd love to hear from others who are also experiencing this problem.

THE CASE OF THE MISSING FACEBOOK COMMENTS

Interesting dilemma; has anyone noticed that their comments are disappearing from threads? I replied to several comments on The Vintage News site, a post about the propaganda of white slaves, with quoted texts, citing book titles, page # s and links, were repeatedly deleted. My comments were scholarly in nature, and in no way argumentative or disrespectful. I finally got wise and began copying my comments. I even wrote directly to the Vintage News site. They said they did not remove my comments.

Maybe it's a browser error (not) or a Facebook glitch. I changed view to Top Comments (relevant) view to Most Recent, and one missing post reappeared. All my previous comments were definitely deleted.

THANK YOU ALL for your input. I've learned that

*You can change the order of the info from Top Comments (FB filter-default) to Most Recent, (or to Top Comments unfiltered).

*You can do a name search on a group page and all your comments will be sorted.

*You can use hashtags to go directly to your comments ( global).

* You can go to your Activity Log on your home page ans search there to find a post.

*You can LIKE your own posts to keep them relevant and live.

When I get this warning on public pages, it becomes impossible to post my comments. Latest, on Medievalists.net; and it was an historic poem on a Welsh Castle. I suspect certain words are red flags: Slavery certainly is... on this poem I am at a loss as to what caused the erasure.

In this case, sixth time was a charm. I've learned to copy lengthy posts, and keep them in my copy and paste buffer until I know that it'll hold.

I get this one a lot too, I assumed it was gearhead error, but now I'm not so sure. It's an alien plot, I tell you! LOL

Days later: Well, here we are again—the facebook algorithm bots are still punking me—ostensibly over my Protest & BLM posts in that I cannot edit any of my comments (but I can edit my own posts).

Each morning the algorithm must be reset because I can make changes in my first few comments. I am a relentless editor, and I can’t stand typos. And Facebook often changes the words I used—after I’ve posted—if I use autodictate. Then, after a few corrections, it’s back to the bot patrol, and I cannot make any changes on my comments.

I think it has something to do with how often you use Facebook. In other words, if I don’t post early and often, and don’t react to others posts, it’s a non-issue. I can edit my comments at will. Some kindly soul suggested it was because the Facebook platform was overwhelmed. Since it only happens to me and  select others, also known rabble rousers, I think it’s an algorithm directed towards repeat offenders of “community standards” to thwart our activity.

So I consider it some sort of punitive Facebook jail where those of us who post early and often, and then want to clarify our ideas later, are hampered by this algorithm. I no longer get the pesky Facebook wrist-slap warnings telling me how I’m not using the FB feature appropriately. Or I’m posting too fast!

I have found a workaround. I now copy my comments, and repost them again with corrections. I really hate typos. But try to explain to a bot that I have dyslexia and that literacy is something I continually have to work toward?

Do not go gentle….
