Den Bosch (photos)

I found some B&W pix of the cathedral that certainly informed Hieronymus Bosch's world view. I hope the ID is right, the Leuven sign on the cathedral has me stumped. Photo says: blood drive Friday, June 25, Town hall, Leuven. So it may be misidentified, I’m not done scanning. It is 1993, however, so that guess is right. Anyway, it was a big anniversary year for Bosch, my friend Jan Bogaerts had a big show, so we went to DenBosch to see his photos. 

In June, 1993, Vinz van Neerven and I visited the Gothic cathedral where Jheronimus van Aken‘s paintings graced the altar. It was way too dark to even think of taking photographs. I can’t remember, but I think he was buried in the church. The organ was stupendous. There was a bookbinding and printing exhibit inside as well.

“Little is known of Bosch's life, though there are some records. He spent most of it in the town of 's-Hertogenbosch, where he was born in his grandfather's house. Buried on 9 August 1516 (aged 65–66) 's-Hertogenbosch, Duchy of Brabant, Habsburg Netherlands.”
