The sea shakes the cliffs,
loosening rocks like teeth.
The pitched roofs of the manor
toss the air back to clouds
as the sea shoves against the moor.
Beyond the window
is the lone figure of a man
wending his way towards shore.
A girl in a blue shift
leans against another window
gazing at the sea
marking his progress.
The curtains luff like sails.
Facing the afternoon sea,
her eyes, mirrors
reflecting back the purchase of the sea.
Out take
On the wall is a portrait of Annie
with a parrot on her shoulder.
On the shoulder of the parrot
sits a smaller Annie
and on the smaller Annie
sits an even smaller parrot-
like mirrors looking greenly
into one another.
with a parrot on her shoulder.
On the shoulder of the parrot
sits a smaller Annie
and on the smaller Annie
sits an even smaller parrot-
like mirrors looking greenly
into one another.
I don’t know when this was published in the Russian River News. I don’t even have a hard copy of this poem. And if I hadn’t been scamming news clippings, I would’ve never found it.
